How to look after monthly contact lenses.

Your eyes are one of your most important assets, and when you use monthly contact lenses it is extremely important to ensure that you clean and care for them, otherwise you could be jeopardising both the health and safety of your eyes. If you follow these easy steps then caring for your contact lenses will be nice and simple:
• Always make sure you wash your hands fully and make sure they are dried before handling your lenses or touching your eyes. Failure to wash your hands could lead to infection, and failing to dry them could lead to any chemicals or soap left irritating your eye or blurring your vision.
• Only wear them for the recommended time prescribed by your optician.
• Make sure you clean and contain the lenses as directed by your optician, some solutions or drops may be unsuitable for the type of lens you have, so make sure you only use products recommended by your optician.
• After each use, sterilise your contact lens case by using hot water or a sterilising solution and let it air dry, preventing any bacteria from building up inside the case.
• You must never use plain water or your mouth to clean them, as these will contain microorganisms that could be harmful to your eyes.
• When you do clean your lenses, use your index finger to rub the lens in the palm of your hand, if you do not like this method there are “no rub” solutions available to use instead.
• To ensure your eyes don’t become too dry, use a rewetting solution, or a plain saline solution.
• If you wear makeup, ensure you put this on prior to the application of makeup so that you do not transfer any material onto the lens that could cause discomfort or infection.
• Finally, do not let the tip of the solution bottle touch any surface, including your finger or contact lens, as this could spread any microorganisms into your lenses.
If you follow these steps you will ensure optimum use of your lenses and maintain a healthy clean eye.
